Roscommon duo reach West of Ireland semi-finals



Roscommon Golf Club will have two players contesting Tuesday’s semi-finals at the Connollys Audi West of Ireland championship at Co Sligo Golf Club, following impressive matchplay performances on the penultimate day of competition.

Allan Hill, who clinched the final spot in the top 16 on Sunday for the matchplay stages ahead of Co Sligo’s TJ Ford,  was an impressive 5&4 winner over leading qualifier and former champion Caolan Rafferty (Dundalk) during the morning Last 16 games.

And – he followed that up in the afternoon with an 4&2 success of defending champion Hugh Foley (Royal Dublin).

Hill’s opponent in the last four will be Galway’s Liam Nolan, runner-up in the West of Ireland in 2021.

On the other side of the draw, another Roscommon golfer Thomas Higgins beat Donegal’s Ryan Griffin and Scotland’s Andrew Benson on Monday to book his place in the semi-finals.

He’ll take on Bray’s Alan Fahy on Tuesday morning.
