Sligo MEP says diversity must be ‘celebrated and protected’

A Sligo town-based member of the European Parliament says hate crimes are ‘an attack on freedom, compassion and love.’

Sinn Fein MEP for the Midlands North West Chris MacManus described the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee as ‘callous.’

He added that people stand with every member of the LGBTI+ community, whose diversity should be celebrated and protected.

‘The people of Sligo and indeed the entire island of Ireland stand with you,’ he said.

He added: ‘We must trust and support the investigative process and any subsequent judicial procedures.’
