Rovers academy players central to Bob Docherty Cup success

Two Sligo Rovers academy players had vital roles in the Republic of Ireland Under 15 Schools Bob Docherty Cup victory in Newcastle.

Keeva Flynn, who is a student at St. Mary’s Secondary School in Ballina and Emma Duffy of Davitt College, Castlebar and are currently both part of Sligo Rovers’ Under 17 Women’s Team played all three games as the Republic retained the competition they last won in 2019.

Following a 4-1 victory over England and a 4-3 victory over Northern Ireland in the group stages, the Republic advanced to Thursday morning’s final against Scotland.

Victory over England ensured the piece of silverware- the John Read Trophy. Following the game, Duffy received the Player of the Match for her performance.

In what was a closely fought final, both the Republic of Ireland and Scotland had chances. However, one did end up in the back of the net in the 60th minute as team captain Hannah Healy headed home to give Richard Berkeley’s side victory.
