Possible links between Moffitt Murder and weekend attack

It’s being reported that Gardai believe Aidan Moffitt may have been the second victim of a homophobic attacker.

There is speculation the incident is linked to another attack in Sligo town over the weekend where a man lost an eye in a violent attack.

Mr Moffitt, a peace commissioner, suffered horrific injuries and was badly mutilated during the attack.  His body was discovered on Monday.

The local auctioneer was the former Fine Gael constituency secretary for Sligo-Leitrim.

He was originally from Lisacul, near Ballaghadereen in west Roscommon.

On Saturday a man in his early 40s was attacked close to the Racecourse area of Sligo town. It is understood the victim of that assault was stabbed in the face and subsequently lost an eye.
