Sligo Rovers held by UCD

Sligo Rovers and UCD played out a 2-2 in Saturday night’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game at the Showgrounds.

Max Mata scored twice for the home side but the students will feel slightly unlucky not to come away from this fixture with all three points.

The Kiwi gave Rovers the lead on 23 minutes with his first goal for the club – but UCD drew level on 57 minutes thanks to an quality finish from Colm Whelan, following fine approach play from Tubbercurry native Liam Kerrigan.

Evan Caffrey then put the visitors in front before Mata flicked home a long ball from Rovers captain Greg Bolger five minutes later.

This result means Liam Buckley’s team have collected just one point from nine in their three home fixtures over the past eight days.
