Local TD calls for Compensation be finalised for Shass Mountain Farmers

The government are being called on to set a date for a compensation package for those impacted by the Shass Mountain landslide near Drumkeerin.

The landslide which took place in June 2020 caused significant damage to farms, roads and bridges in the Drumkeerin areas.

Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin raised the matter in the Dáil yesterday.  Deputy Harkin claims no progress has been made when it comes to providing compensation to local farmers since.

Deputy Harkin raised the issue in the Dáil with Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Sean Fleming who said those impacted will continue to receive their basic farm payments.

Deputy Harkin says this is ‘totally unacceptable’ as farmers in Leitrim have ‘waited too long’.
