Leitrim Councillor says changes to fair deal scheme is not enough to ease housing crisis

A Leitrim Councillor says changes to the fair deal scheme which is expected to see more homes come on to the rental market will not be anywhere near enough to address the housing crisis that currently exists across the north west.

At present if someone entering a nursing home rents out their own home – 80% of the proceeds must go to the care home provider.

This financial barrier is likely to be removed with the Government estimating that as many 8,000 homes could be made available for Ukrainian refugees or the wider rental market.

Cllr Brendan Barry says the the move on it’s own will not be enough to address the housing crisis
