Sligo Rovers Emma Doherty scores twice for Ireland in 2-0 win

Sligo Rovers teenager Emma Doherty scored both of Ireland’s goals in Wednesday evening’s 2-0 win against the Czech Republic in a women’s European under-19 qualifier.

Buncrana native Doherty, who’s in her Leaving Cert year, broke the deadlock in the 48th minute in Opava when she raced clear of the Czech back four to finish superbly to the net.

The 18-year-old made the game safe in injury time when she finished Jessie Stapleton’s cross to the net.

The game also saw the introduction of Manorhamilton’s Muireann Devaney as a second-half substitute.
