St Attracta’s beaten in extra-time in All-Ireland soccer semi

There was disappointment for St Attracta’s Community School in their All-Ireland girls under-17 soccer semi-final in Donegal Town on Tuesday as the south Sligo school were edged out by Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana, 2-1 after extra-time.

Attracta’s were so close to victory as they led by one goal to nil in the dying seconds of normal time thanks to a goal from Lauren Normanly, but the Ulster champions struck for a late late equaliser from Bria McGilloway.

In extra-time, Attracta’s goalkeeper Macayla Burke was sent off after handling the ball outside her penalty area.

That forced the Sligo girls into a reshuffle and Buncrana took advantage with Republic of Ireland under-17 international Jodie Loughrey netting for Scoil Mhuire in the second period of extra-time to send her school into the All-Ireland schools final.
