Dangers of climbing on Benbulben highlighted again

The dangers posed to walkers when they become disorientated on Benbulben Mountain in Sligo have been highlighted again following a rescue involving Gardai and Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team.

It occurred on Sunday when the walker became disorientated near the summit of the mountain.

With deteriorating weather, the man in his fifties could not locate the route down to Luke’s Bridge, where his car was parked.

Henry Doherty, Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue PRO, said six team members responded to the call out and made their way to Luke’s Bridge to search for the man.

The walker was located at approximately 11:45pm and was found to be very wet and cold but otherwise uninjured.
