Sligo’s Sean Carrabine cleared to play against New York

Sligo senior gaelic footballers have received a boost ahead of next month’s Connacht senior football championship quarter-final against New York with confirmation on Wednesday night that Sean Carrabine has had his red card against Leitrim rescinded.

Carrabine, who has been one of the county’s best performers so far in 2022, received a straight red during Sligo’s concluding Division 4 game against Leitrim last Sunday, which Sligo won by 2-16 to 2-10.

That straight red meant the Castleconnor clubman was set to sit out next month’s trips to Gaelic Park.

However, it’s been confirmed that Carrabine was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing – and so can be part of Sligo’s matchday squad for the New York game on Easter Sunday (April 17th).

The New York v Sligo game will be broadcast live on Ocean FM from 7:30pm Irish time.

There is no confirmation yet on whether Leitrim have sought to appeal Keith Beirne’s red card.

The county’s leading marksman in the league was also dismissed during a separate incident in the same game.

Nowever, the lack of video evidence appears to have hampered Leitrim’s prospects of getting that red card overturned.
