Stirring second-half sends Sligo hurlers into league final

Sligo senior hurlers produced a superb second-half to overturn a six-point half-time deficit against Donegal, to win by one in Saturday’s Allianz hurling league division 2B semi-final at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny – on a final scoreline of Donegal 1-19 Sligo 1-20.

Padraig Mannion’s side trailed Donegal by 1-9 to 0-6 at the turnaround, with the home side on top in most sectors.

However, Sligo were much improved after the restart and scored the first four points of the second-half to cut Donegal’s lead to two.

Mickey McCann’s did pull four points clear again at one stage in the second-half and appeared to have regained the momentum.

But Sligo heads never dropped and they produced the key scores in the dying moments to edge to victory.

Joe McHugh fired over what proved to be the matchwinning score.

Sligo now face Derry in the Division 2B league final.

It’s the Yeats County’s fourth consecutive league final.

They reached two Division 3B league deciders in 2019 and 2020, winning the second one.

Sligo lifted the 3A title last year – and are now through to the Division 2B final.
