Kenny scores again for Ireland U19s in 4-1 defeat to Portugal

Celtic’s Johnny Kenny was on target for the Republic of Ireland under-19 side in their 4-1 loss to Portugal in a UEFA U19 elite phase qualifier.

Kenny gave Ireland a first-half lead in the 25th minute of the game, which they held onto until the closing quarter of the match as Portugal hit back with two second-half goals to move in front – and they added two more goals in injury time to complete a 4-1 victory.

Kenny was stretchered off with a knee injury during Ireland’s 3-1 loss to England in Walsall during the week – but he recovered sufficiently to take his starting place in Saturday’s time.

However, the two defeats this week for Ireland mean they have been eliminated from the UEFA Under-19 European Championship Elite Phase.
