Man refused bail in Tom Niland case



A 28 year old man has been refused bail after being charged in the aggravated burglary of Tom Niland in Skreen, Co Sligo on the 18th of January.

RTE reports John Irving of Shanwar, Foxford, Co Mayo was refused bail on a number of grounds such as the seriousness of the charge and the potential sentence if convicted.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown Court on the 8th of April.

Two other men also charged with aggravated burglary at the home of Mr Niland in January appeared in court via video link from Castlerea Prison.

Two other men, 33 year old John Clarke of Carrowkelly, Ballina, Co. Mayo and 54 year old Francis Harmon of Nephin Court, Killala Road, Ballina, Co Mayo were remanded in custody to appear before Sligo District Court on the 7th of April.

Solicitor for John Clarke, Mark Mullaney, said his client would be applying for bail on the next remand date and solicitor for Francis Harmon, Peter Loftus, indicated his client may seek bail also.
