Manorhamilton Councillor warns of serious accident if footbridges are not completed

A Manorhamilton-based county councillor is warning that there will be a serious accident if a footbridge in the north Leitrim town is not completed.

Independent Councillor Felim Gurn says there’s an accident waiting to happen because of the level of traffic coming in and out of two car parks in the area, one a new car park, the other the Courthouse car park.

He also says that this, together with the traffic coming from Amorset and Lurganboy, have left it dangerous for pedestrians crossing the bridge beside the courthouse.

He says that because of this, a footbridge beside the Courthouse Bridge needs to be completed.

At yesterday’s meeting of councillors from the Manorhamilton Municipal District, Cllr Gurn was told the council did not receive funding from the National Transport Authority this year to progress the footbridge.

Meanwhile, the council says that it, with its solicitors, are trying to establish the necessary wayleaves to facilitate completion of the footbridge.

However, Cllr Gurn is insisting the wellbeing of people walking across the Courthouse Bridge takes priority over any other issues.
