Long waiting times at Sligo Hospital Emergency Department

Management at Sligo University Hospital says patients presenting to the Emergency Department are experiencing long waiting times.

Covid-19 is continuing to impact hospital services with more than 60 patients with COVID-19 being treated in the hospital and nine wards dealing with outbreaks.

Management say the ongoing pressure on bed capacity is the reason for the long delays and apologise for the inconvenience and distress these delays are causing.

People who are seriously injured or ill are assessed and treated as a priority and those who do not require urgent care may be waiting longer.

It’s recommended to contact your GP if it is not an emergency.

Access for visitors to the wards affected by COVID-19 outbreaks is limited to compassionate grounds only and must be organised in advance with the nurse manager on the ward.
