Donegal Town’s Abbey Vocational School have been crowned Ulster Schools Under 17 Soccer (Tom Ticher Cup) Champions following a 3-2 victory over fellow Tír Chonaill school, Loreto Community School, Milford on Tuesday afternoon.
In what was an enthralling opening half an hour at Letterkenny Community Centre, Ruairi McLaughlin opened the scoring for the Abbey.
Netminder Peadar Shallow brilliantly saved a penalty to deny a Milford equaliser. The leveller did arrive from the resulting corner as James McAteer’s found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Ruairi McLaughlin and Abbey V.S. responded instantly with a lead goal with an excellent finish for the coached by Mark Young and Leo Gallagher.
Defender Callum Dunnion made it 3-1 early in the second half. However, once again their opponents responded. This time with a Callum Cullen goal on sixty minutes.
The Donegal Town school held firm in Letterkenny to win the school’s first Ulster title at any level.
