Chris O’Donnell helps relay team set Irish record at World Indoors

North Sligo Athletic Club’s Christopher O’Donnell anchored the men’s 4 x 400 metres relay team to an impressive third place finish in Sunday morning’s heat at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade.

The Irish quartet of O’Donnell, Cillin Greene, Cathal Crosbie and Brian Gregan set a new national indoor record for the dicipline, clocking 3:08:63.

O’Donnell’s split was the quickest of the four, 46.18secs.

Unfortunately, with just the two from each of the three heats qualifying for Sunday afternoon’s final, the Irish team were seventh fastest overall – and miss out on the final by one place.
