All-Stars leap into play-off semi-finals

EJ Sligo All-Stars have moved one step closer to potential promotion to next season’s Superleague following Saturday night’s eventful 91-86 victory against a determined Fr Matthew’s side in the men’s Division 1 end-of-season play-offs.

As North Conference winners, the All-Stars had home advantage for this game but they found their Cork opponents a tough nut to crack.

The All-Stars were never behind in this contest and they led by 15 points at one stage in the second half.

But Fr Matthew’s, led by American Jonathan Garcia who won the game’s MVP award, never lay down and had make it a level game on a couple of occasions in quarters three and four.

However, they never managed to get in front and the All-Stars finished strongly with Keith Jordan and Zack Powell contributing key scores at key moments – while the impressive Oisin O’Reilly made the game save in the dying seconds from the free-throw line.

The All-Stars now prepare for a home semi-final against IT Carlow next Saturday night (March 26th).

Division 1 quarter-final results
EJ Sligo All-Stars 91 Fr Matthew’s 86
IT Carlow 81 Drogheda Wolves 71
Malahide 102 Limerick Sport Eagles 73
UCC Demons v Dublin Lions (Sunday, 3pm).
