St Attracta’s reach Connacht soccer final

St Attracta’s girls under-17 soccer team reached the Schoolgirls FAI Connacht ‘A’ final on Monday with a hard-fought 2-0 win against Corrib of Galway.

Goals from Rebecca Doddy and Lauren Normanly in closing quarter of the game gave the south Sligo girls a deserved victory.

There was little to choose between the teams for much of this semi-final – until 15 minutes from time, Doddy popped up to fire home a screamer which gave St Attracta’s the lead.

Normanly added a second moments later to seal the win.

St Attracta’s, who are coached by Andrew Flynn and Hughie Harvey, will have to wait to final out who their Connacht final opponents will be.

Ursuline College will be hoping to make it an all-Sligo decider as they are still involved on the other side of the draw.

They face Claregalway College in a quarter-final with the winners of that game set to face Taylor’s Hill of Galway in the last four.
