Enniscorne’s Darragh Mulrooney runs his way to Ireland team selection

Jesus and Mary Secondary School Enniscrone student Darragh Mulrooney produced a brilliant run to finish fifth at the Irish Life Health All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships at Mallusk Playing Fields in Belfast on Saturday afternoon.

Running in the Intermediate Boys 5,000 metres category, Mulrooney was part of a strong field. The race was won by Lughaigh Mallon of Rathmore Grammar School in Belfast in a time of 16:34.

Mulrooney’s run has earned him a place on the Irish School’s Cross Country team which will compete in the International School’s Cross Country in Port Talbot, Wales at the end of March.

The Moy Valley A.C. athlete is the son of Jason and Karen Mulrooney; Karen recently set a Sligo A.C. club marathon record with a time of 2:41:25 at the Seville Marathon.
