Two people die following a fatal road traffic collision on R293 between Ballaghaderreen and Gorteen



Two people have died following a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which took place earlier this morning on the R293 between Ballahgadereen and Gorteen at Edmonstown road.

 

At approximately 3:30am Emergency Services and Gardaí attended the incident.

The three people travelling in car were treated at the scene by emergency services personnel for serious injuries.

 

One of the occupants a man in his 20’s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The second, a female in her 30s, was removed by Ambulance to Castlebar Hospital. She has since been pronounced dead.

 

The third person, a male also in his 20s, was taken to Castlebar Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The crash site remains closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

 

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R293 at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Emergency services are also attending the scene of a road traffic collision on Teeling Street in Tubbercurry.

 

Ambulance and Gardai are currently attending the scene of the two car collision.
