Deputy Padraig McLochlainn – Donegal Fishermen marooned by rising fuels costs

Warnings are being that the farming and fishing industries are dealing with unsustainable cost increases.

Many farmers are on the brink of bankruptcy while fishermen in Donegal are being left with no choice but to anchor their vessels.

That’s the stark warning being issued by a Donegal TD

The Irish Road Haulage Association says a ‘very serious’ protest by truck drivers will take place, if the industry doesn’t get more government support.

The group met with the Minister for Transport last night, to discuss ways to deal with record-high fuel prices.

Truck drivers say they can no longer survive the rising cost of doing business, as the price of diesel rose to more than 2-euro this week.

Overnight, a cut to excise came into effect to reduce the price of diesel reduce by 15 cent, and petrol by 20 cent per litre.

Sinn Fein Deputy Padraig McLochlainn says the situation for many farmers and fishermen based Donegal is very serious.

The Donegal TD says many fishermen are contemplating docking their boats.
