Funeral of one-time Fine Gael stalwart Joe Sweeney this afternoon in Sligo



The funeral is taking place in Sligo this afternoon of Joe Sweeney, a one-time stalwart of Fine Gael in Sligo/Leitrim who held an array of positions in the party organisation.

A native of Corrigeen, Tulsk, Co Roscommon, he was an accountant and businessman who worked and lived in Sligo.

He also had business in Ballyshannon.

His funeral arrived this lunchtime at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Sligo for funeral Mass, after which burial will take place in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Scarden.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, former Fine Gael Minister, TD and councillor, Tony McLoughlin, recalled a man who, with a number of others of his time, were pillars of the Fine Gael organisation.
