Sligo Rovers sign Orna O’Dowd

West Sligo’s Orna O’Dowd has become the latest player to sign for Sligo Rovers senior women’s team ahead of their imminent Women’s National League campaign.

A defender, O’Dowd has enjoyed plenty of success throughout her career to date.

After beginning her career at Kilglass Enniscrone United, she joined Ballina Town. There, she enjoyed a trophy-laden spell which included the WFAI Intermediate Cup in 2006 and 2014 (as captain).

O’Dowd joined Conn Rangers in 2021.

As well as a successful soccer player, O’Dowd has also achieved success on the Gaelic football field as joint-captain of the Eoghan Rua team that won the 2020 Connacht LGFA Junior Final and as a member of the Sligo Ladies Gaelic football team.

Speaking to sligorovers.com, O’Dowd is looking forward to playing closer to home: ““It’s such an achievement and memorable time, before this you’d be watching/following the games but to be given the opportunity to play locally at this level and to come up against international players too is exciting.”
