Sligo Rovers earn valuable point at the Brandywell

Sligo Rovers encouraging start to the new SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season continued on Monday night with a battling 0-0 draw against early pace setters Derry City at the Brandywell.

Even though the game produced no goals, this was an eventful contest with both sides hitting the woodwork in either half.

Derry created a host of first-half chances, notably through Jamie McGonigle who hit the Rovers crossbar with a close range effort.

However, Rovers improved as the game wore on – and Aidan Keena saw his close range shot strike the Derry crossbar in the dying seconds of the game.

Rovers manager Liam Buckley spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after the game:

Listen back to commentary highlights of Monday’s game here, as described by Austin O’Callaghan and former Sligo Rovers boss Sean Connor.

In the night’s other games, Finn Harps lost 3-0 to Dundalk at Oriel Park.

There were wins too for Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians.
