Overnight snowfall causing travel disruption



The Status Yellow – Snow/Ice warning remains in place for the counties of Sligo Leitrim and Donegal until 12.00 today.

 

Snow has fallen in many parts of the region overnight and there are icy stretches on untreated surfaces which is leading to hazardous driving conditions this morning

Gardai are warning motorists in the region to take extra care.

In Sligo a car has gone off the road at on the N4 Cloonamahon which is partly blocking the road.  There are also delays at Calry, Finisklin and on the Boyle to Ballinafad road where heavy goods vehicles are struggling on hills.

 

In Ballymote the roads are described as very dangerous, there are numerous reports of cars having left road already.

 

In Manorhamilton Gardai say that while main roads have been gritted care is advised on secondary roads.

 

In Donegal there are reports of significant falls of snow in many areas and Gardai say extreme care is needed on Secondary roads
