Donegal TD says increasing Carbon taxes shows how out of touch government are with the public

A Donegal TD has accused the Government of abandoning families that are struggling as a result of the increased cost of living.

Speaking in the Dáil Deputy Pearse Doherty referenced a recent report commissioned by Barnardos which claimed a third of families in Connaught and Ulster worry about not being able to provide food for their children.

The Taoiseach meanwhile has ruled out the idea of deferring a planned rise in the carbon tax.

Micheál Martin has warned fuel costs will likely increase again as a result of sanctions against Russia and Germany halting a planned gas pipeline.

He says the increases in the Carbon taxes will go ahead as planned.

Sinn Fein’s spokesperson on finance, Pearse Doherty says the government have no realisation of the struggles that many people are facing at present.

He says further measures in the next budget is not an adequate response.
