Over 2,000 patients impacted by lack of Ophthalmic services in Donegal



Concern is being expressed this morning with the scaling back of essential services at Letterkenny University Hospital.

 

Independent TD Thomas Pringle claims over 2,000 eye-care patients in Donegal have been waiting over a year to get necessary treatment due to the lack of ophthalmic services at the Hospital.

 

Ophthalmic service for the north west is now mainly based in Sligo University Hospital, as Letterkenny does not currently have the nursing and medical staff required.

 

The Taoiseach says the government are committed to providing the necessary funding to maintain as many services as possible in Letterkenny.

 

Deputy Pringle fears that this could be an example of the further scaling back of services:
