Sligo Councillors seek increase in housing grants

Sligo councillors are calling for housing grants to be increased because of rising building costs.

At this week’s monthly meeting of the council yesterday, councillors pointed out that the cost of building materials and labour had gone up by more than 60%.

In a motion, Cllrs Michael Clarke, Paul Taylor, Joe Queenan, Dara Mulvey and Martin Baker urged that one housing grant be increased from €8,000 to €15,000.

They also want the maximum housing adaptation grant for people with a disability to be increased from €30,000 to €45,000.

Cllr Queenan says they hoping for a positive response soon from the department.
