Leitim Cllr calls for housing renovation scheme to be extended to rural areas

A Leitrim Councillor is calling on the government to extend a recently announced scheme aimed at renovating derelict properties in towns and villages to rural areas.

A new grant of up to €30,000 to help people who buy derelict properties to renovate and live in was launched by housing minister Darragh O’Brien earlier this month.

The scheme aims to tackle dereliction as part of a range of measures aimed at bringing more families into towns and villages.

Leitrim Councillor Sean McDermott says a similar should be rolled out in rural Ireland.
