Parts of the North West will have to wait until 2025 For High Speed Broadband

A Sligo Leitrim TD is claiming that the north west is once again ‘at the back of the queue’ when it comes to regional development.

Independent TD, Marian Harkin made the comment after learning the majority of homes across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal won’t be connected to broadband until 2025 or 2026.

The National Broadband Plan remains behind target with goals for 2022 still to be decided.

The three billion euro plan to roll out fibre broadband was delayed over the last two years, with Ministers citing Covid as a major reason.

Deputy Harkin says the fact that parts of the north west will have to wait another three to four years for high speed broadband is unacceptable.
