Death has taken place of Donal O’Shea



The death of has taken place of the former CEO of the former North Western Health Board, Donal O’Shea of Sligo.

Mr O’Shea held the position between 1972 and 1999, ahd his tenure coincided with the development of one of the most effective primary healthcare services in Ireland at the time.

He is credited with integrating GPs, public health nurses and administrators to create a team approach to local healthcare provision.

In 1999, he was appointed as the CEO of the newly-established Eastern Regional Health Authority.
