The death has taken place one of Sligo Town’s best known residents, Martin Forde, of St Anne’s Terrace.
Mr Forde was a former General Election candidate in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency, and also previously ran in the elections to Sligo Borough Council.
He was an outspoken campaigner on a number of issues over many years, and was well-known for writing poetry as well, which he had published regularly.
