2027 before some homes in Leitrim will have broadband says Councillor

A Leitrim Councillor says it could be 2027 before some homes in Leitrim will be connected to high speed broadband.

Brendan Barry claims that €50 million was paid to investors in fees and interest from the National Broadband plan before a single house was connected.

He is now urging the local authority to call on the Government not to sell or privatise any more state-owned utilities or bodies.

Cllr Barry says if the state had not sold off Telecom Eireann it would own the infrastructure required to facilitate the connection of homes and businesses and would also be in a position to make considerable savings on costs on installation and rent.
