Sligo doctor’s appeal: Check with your local GP practice about jab to ensure no wastage

A Sligo GP is appealing to people to contact their local doctor’s practice about getting Covid vaccines so as to avoid wastage.

Ocean FM News understands many doctors’ surgeries ordered a significant amount of vaccines that may now go past their best-before date if not used.

The surgeries were following advice — they ordered the vaccines after the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Irish Medical Organisation issued a national appeal to GPs to pause so-called ‘regular’ work in mid-December so as to get the booster programme advanced.

Dr. Keith Russell, from the Medicentre in Barrack Street in Sligo, says his practice has 1,000 vaccines they are happy to offer to anyone eligible to receive a Covid vaccine, whether it be Dose 1, 2 or 3.

He says people do not need to be registered with his practice as patients to get the vaccines.

Dr Russell says their priority is to ensure vaccines are used before their expiry date and are not wasted.

He outlined how the current situation has arisen.

Dr Russell explained how people can get a vaccine at the Medicentre, on Barrack Street in Sligo town.
