Schools reopen under challenging circumstances



 

A Sligo Secondary School Principal says schools will be operating in challenging circumstances over the next few weeks due to the high level of Covid-19 in the community.

 

Dave McEvoy is the Principal of St. Attracta’s Community School in Tubbercurry.

Yesterday 351 students from the school’s population of 700 students returned on the first day after the Christmas break.

 

Mr McEvoy says parents and guardians are being responsible and are correctly not sending students to school if they have concerns over their children showing symptoms of Covid 19.

 

David McEvoy says he expects further disruption to school’s as long as the numbers remain high.

 

 

 

Nationally yesterday Five per cent of schools had to send at least one class home today due to Covid-related absences.

80 per cent didn’t have all teachers available, according to a survey by the National Principals Forum.

While there was an average attendance rate of  70%.
