High Covid numbers result in more visitor restrictions at Letterkenny, Galway hospitals

A doubling of the number of patients being treated in hospital for Covid-19 in Galway and Letterkenny has prompted the Saolta Group of Hospitals to bring in new measures to reduce the spread of the disease.

Hundreds of hospital staff are on Covid-related sick leave, and elective procedures have been suspended for now to enable existing staff to deal with emergency care and covid-19 patients.

Chief Executive of the Saolta University Healthcare Group, Tony Canavan, said they are also restricting visitors and reducing visiting times.
