Bishop Doran describes speculation around restrictions as unhelpful

There are fears that the latest restrictions that are being suggested by NPHET to halt the spread of Covid-19 could a lead to serious disruption when it comes to the staging of religious services over Christmas.

There are reports that a 50% capacity could be placed on the numbers attending religious services and that the 5 p.m. curfew could also be imposed on religious events.

The Bishop of the dioceses of Elphin Kevin Doran is waiting for an official announcement in relation to imposing of further restrictions.  Speaking this morning to OceanFM he says the speculation surrounding the latest restrictions is far from helpful.

In relation to a 50% capacity being imposed on religious events Bishop Doran says no information has yet been forwarded to the Catholic Church in relation to how many parishioners can be permitted to such events nor has any communications been forwarded on a possible 5 p.m. curfew.

Whereas not being able to lead a normal Christmas will be a serious inconvenience for many, Bishop Doran says it’s important that lessons are taken on board from previous experiences of living with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Finally Bishop Doran says the latest development will be a major test to the resolve of the general public.

He has pleaded with everyone to do the right thing for their family and friends.
