Ex-Sligo Rovers keeper takes on Crossbar Challenge

Sligo Rovers 2011 FAI Cup winning goalkeeper Brendan Clarke is embarking on a national Crossbar Challenge tour this weekend to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Clarke, who’s currently playing with newly-promoted Shelbourne, and his former St Patrick’s Athletic clubmate Conan Byrne will visit each of the 19 League of Ireland grounds during a three-day blitz.

The fundraiser is starting this Saturday, December 11th and will finish on Monday, December 13th.

They will try to strike the crossbar with shots from the half-way line at every League of Ireland ground.

Up first is their former home of Richmond Park then across the city to Bohemians and Shelbourne before they leave Dublin behind and head up the M1 to Drogheda and Dundalk.

The will visit Derry City, Finn Harps and Sligo Rovers later on Saturday.

Clarke spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan about the challenge:
