Storm Barra hits the North West



The entire country is on standby for major disruption as Storm Barra hits Ireland.

 

A Status wind and rain warning has been for local counties.

 

Gusts in excess of 130 kilometres per hour are expected in parts of the country, homes are businesses are advised to expect disruption to power and travel.

 

Warnings are in place for all coastal counties.

 

The Road safety authority are urging all motorists to proceed with caution.

 

Locally Gardaí in Sligo are advising that a tree is down close to St Angela’s College in Sligo.  Sligo County Council have been notified.

 

Roads in Sligo and across the region are being described as dangerous in many areas due to falls of sleet and light coverings of snow.

 

There are reports of tree branches on the road out of Grange heading towards Sligo, with reports of slight damage being caused to vehicles.

 

The Ballymote to Bunnanadden road is also reported to be dangerous due to snow.

 

In Leitrim Gardaí in Manorhamilton have received reports of trees having been knocked down on the Sligo to Manorhamilton Road.

 

There are also reports of trees down on the Parkes Castle Road and on the Sligo to Dromahair Road.

 

The Glenfarne to Manorhamilton road is also believed to be very dangerous.

 

Leitrim County Council have been notified of the locations are currently working on removing the trees.

 

There have been reports of snow falling in many areas of Donegal and as a result the road are dangerous.

 

Roads close to the Donegal Gap are reported to be particularly dangerous.

 

Power outages are being reported in areas of Donegal and Sligo.
