Letterkenny University Hospital one of the most overcrowded for almost a month



Letterkenny University Hospital has been the most or the second most overcrowded hospital in the country for nearly a month.

Today the hospital is once again experiencing high volumes of patients waiting for a bed according to the latest Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s Trolley Watch figures.

59 people are waiting in Letterkenny today and while this represents a drop of 11 on yesterday’s figure, the hospital is the second most overcrowded once again.

Letterkenny and University Hospital Limerick have been the two most overcrowded hospitals in the country since the 13th of November.

A total of 865 patients have been forced to wait in Letterkenny in this time, with the peak coming yesterday with 70.

The number of people waiting has not dropped below 39 since the 13th.

By comparison, 300 patients have waited in Sligo University Hospital during this time while, coincidentally, today there are 36 people waiting which is the highest number during this time period..

In total, 439 people are waiting for a bed nationally today with University hospital Limerick the worst impacted where 83 people are waiting.
