Donegal’s Paddy McGrath retires

Donegal’s All-Ireland winning corner back Paddy McGrath has confirmed his intercounty retirement to the Donegal News.

The Ardara clubman won many admirers during a glittering 12-year intercounty career for his tenacious play, man-marking ability and utter dedication to the county colours over the past decade.

Donegal senior football manager Declan Bonner paid this tribute to McGrath on Monday:

As well as his All-Ireland success with Donegal in 2021, McGrath won five Ulster titles and two NFL Division 2 winners medals.

Injury had hampered his football in recent seasons and, at 32 years of age, he has opted to call time on his intercounty career.

However, McGrath will continue to play in the colours of his native Ardara at club level.
