Accommodation & Homeless Protest to take place in Sligo on Monday

A protest has been arranged to coincide with Monday’s monthly meeting of Sligo County Council.

The protest is being organised by the Sligo Traveller Support Group.

They are calling on those who are concerned about the accommodation and homeless crisis in Sligo to join them for the protest which will take place on Monday at 9.30am at the offices of Sligo County Council.

The homeless and accommodation crisis has been catapulted into the public domain recently with one couple experiencing homelessness sleeping in their car outside of the local authority for several nights in Sligo.

There are also examples of people in other towns locally sleeping rough in doorways.

The Sligo Traveller Support Group say many individuals and families are finding it difficult when it comes to gaining access to the private rental market.

Spokesperson Jamie Murphy says the crisis is having a huge impacts on many and is impacting on their mental health.
