Mica scheme: Pringle says those affected ‘will not be hoodwinked’

7,500 thousand mica-affected homes will be repaired or rebuilt under a new redress scheme approved today.

The 100 per cent redress scheme is capped at 420 thousand euro and will include expenses for rent and storage costs.

The cost of a rebuild will be calculated based on 145 euro per square foot for the first 1,000 square feet.

The Housing Minister says he’s confident a levy on the construction sector to be introduced in 2023 will not be passed on to consumers.

Donegal TD Thomas Pringle told Taoiseach Micheal Martin the scheme is not enough and that mica-affected houseowners will not be ‘hookwinked.’
