Home vaccination service for high-risk, housebound in Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan

The HSE for the area covering counties including, Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, and Cavan has announced details of its home vaccination programme.

The programme aims to provide access to COVID-19 vaccinations to people who are very high risk or are housebound

This method of obtaining a vaccine is open to people who have been unable to access COVID-19 vaccinations in the normal outlets.

Most people have been able to obtain their Covid vaccine in GP clinics, vaccination centres, pharmacies, acute hospital vaccination clinics or other vaccination administration locations.

However, referrals can be submitted to the Regional Home Vaccination Team by a number of people including GP, a person in charge of a residential care facility, a nominated lead for the services dealing with primary care, and services dealing with disability, mental health and older persons

The Home Vaccination Team started phase 2 of vaccinating people who are housebound across Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo last week and will get to everyone on the list over the coming weeks.

There is a strict criteria for inclusion in this service and in the first instance people should contact their GP to see if they are eligible for referral.

Referrals will only be accepted once this criterion is met and verified by referring clinicians or service.

COVID-19 vaccinations will not proceed for individuals inappropriately referred.

If accepted, those eligible will receive a call in advance of vaccination day giving them the date of vaccination and expected arrival time of the Housebound Team.
