Assessment of staffing needs in Sligo University Hospital to take place

An independent assessment of staffing requirements at Sligo University Hospital and a Workplace Relations Commission meeting to discuss the situation at the hospital.

These are among the items agreed that led to the cancellation of a protest by nurses that was to have taken place outside Sligo University Hospital this lunchtime.

That protest has been deferred for now.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh said no one wanted to see nurses having to protest outside the hospital after all they have been through with the Covid pandemic.

Letterkenny University Hospital (1,067) was among the three most overcrowded hospitals in the country in November

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has called for the public and private healthcare systems to act as one to tackle hospital overcrowding.

This comes as INMO TrolleyWatch figures for the month of November show 8,317 patients were on trolleys, a 110% increase on November 2020 (3,934).
