The funeral takes place tomorrow of the coal miner who became the public face of the Arigna Mining Experience tourist attraction on the Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon border.
Eugene McPartland is the miner featured on posters throughout the country promoting the Arigna Mining Experience, which was developed after the mines closed in 1990.
He is also on the tourism attraction’s web site.
From Greaghnafarna in Arigna, his funeral Mass will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:30am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Arigna, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Valerie Stenson, manager of the Arigna Mining Experience, said some people may not have known Eugene’s name but countless people were familiar with his image.
