It’s beginning to look a lot like winter

Snow could fall in parts of the North West due to Storm Arwen.

A yellow wind warning is in place for Donegal, Sligo, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Mayo from 3 p.m.  this afternoon.

The storm was named by the UK Met Office, with the worst of the conditions expected there.

Joanna Donnelly from Met Eireann says parts of Ireland will see stormy conditions also:

It’s expected to remain cold and windy for the rest of today with widespread showers, heavy at times, falling as sleet and snow over hills and mountains, particularly in the north.

There is a chance of local lighting and hail too.

Northwesterly winds will be mostly fresh to strong and gusty, especially around showers and will continue to reach gale force along north and northwest coasts (associated with Storm Arwen).

Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees Celsius, with an added wind chill factor.
