The Minister of State for Local Government and Planning Peter Burke say the challenges surrounding the issue of one off planning permission in Leitrim is one that the government are keen to find solutions for.
Minister Burke was in Leitrim today to inspect and open a number of new housing developments that are being constructed on behalf of the local authority.
He also held a meeting with local Councillors in relation to the difficulties associated with obtaining planning permission in the county.
The Minister visited a number of construction projects in areas including Manorhamilton and Drumshanbo earlier today.
As part of today’s visit he also met with local elected representatives including Local Councillor Sean McDermott who has been proactive on issue of one off planning permission in Leitrim for a number of years.
Speaking to OceanFM news Minister Burke explained how the government are currently working on a new ‘willow system in conjunction with Trinity College which could provide solutions to this complex problem.
During his tour of Leitrim today Minister Burke viewed a number of new, 1 room apartments that are currently under construction at Commons Lane in Manorhamilton.
This new turnkey accommodation will be used by the local authority to address the numbers that are currently waiting for council housing in the area.
The Minister of State for Local Government and Planning says these projects also provide indicators of ‘sustainable propert’y that will be more popular in the future

Mister Burke viewed a number of vacant or derelict dwelling homes that are scattered throughout north Leitrim today.
He says a new government initiative under the housing for all policy called the Cori Conative Fund, will lead to a number of vacant or derelict housing being restored which in turn will provide more accommodation for those who wish to remain or relocate to rural areas
